Melanie is not actually hiking with me, she is supporting me so we don't have to
bury caches again.
To follow my actual progress once I start hiking, go
to Melanie's Garmin Mapshare page. I'll be posting my position once every 10
minutes. That may change. I'm using her Inreach Mini 2 as it has MUCH better battery
life:

attempt of the Oregon section of the Desert Trail in 2022 after my injury & having
to quit:
Trailjournals Blog
Yeti will start March 5, 2024 in order to get through Death Valley & the
southern Nevada desert before it gets too hot.
This hike
should take close to five months due to 55% of the trail up to Hwy 20 in Oregon has
NO TRAIL at all, It requires bushwacking the 55%. The other 45% is made up of
existing trails, forest service roads & some highway or back road hiking.
There
are several places Melanie can meet Yeti where the trail crosses highways & roads to
give Yeti water, food, etc. Also, where necessary, take Yeti to town for rest,
re-supply, etc.
Yeti should finish in late July if all goes
as planned.
At the end of each day of posting on Garmin
Mapshare page, Yeti will try to send a message that he is in camp & safe.
Click on the 'Follow Yeti & Melanie', etc Icon and it will 'FLY' to
Yeti's current location and zoom in there. The two hiker icon will be at that
location with the latest co-ordinates and the current message written more often by
Melanie or Yeti if he has time and is with Melanie so he has an internet
connection.
When scrolling around, if you click on any of the
waypoints or tracks the comments will open to give you any information that is in
the waypoint or track. Tracks are harder to select but will tell you what that
section is if red. Blue tracks are alternates. None of the tracks shown are 'Ground
Checked' which means they are only approximate and 55% of the trail is bushwacking
all the way to Highway 20 in Oregon. After that it is trails and roads the rest of
the way.
