Start Location: Stehekin, WA Destination: Manning Park, Canada Section Miles: 89.40

Manning Park Restaurant Left Stehekin on the 8 AM bus September 6. Stopped at the bakery on the way & got my last ice cream. Rivers & Spigot took off first after some pictures & I started out with a guy named Jim who was doing a local loop. I stopped at 21 miles real early as I found a great campsite with good water. I want to enjoy this last part anyway so I don't care how many miles I do now. Next day I stopped early again after about 27 miles. Just before I got here I saw both a bear & a porcupine. There was a herd of deer all through the campsite all night long. There is a spring here I didn't bother to look for as I had plenty of water. The next day, 9-10, I met three brothers from Seattle. We talked quite awhile. Dave, Jim, & John. They took my card & Critter sent them my gear list plus a list of ultra light links. After Holman Pass, I started the last long climb in the US. On the way down, I went brain dead & went right by Hopkins Pass where I had planned to stop. I had to go to headlamp as the terrain was real steep after that until Castle Pass. The next morning, 9-11, I met Slim Gym, his wife Mona Lisa, & Mother Goose who were also camped here. I took off first & got to the border at 7:30 AM. I couldn't find the register but took pictures & waited for Slim Gym & crew to arrive so I could get them to take my picture. Thry knew the secret of the register. You have to tilt over the metal post; it's under it. So I got it signed. Then I took off & hiked out to Manning Park. Got there at noon. I called my wife & then Lookout. Lookout couldn't get there until at least 5:30 PM so I had lunch, filled out a bunch of postcards, signed the register at the lodge, & talked to a bunch of people I met. Lookout picked me up at 6 PM & took me to her house where her husband had a wonderful dinner all ready. I got a shower, washed clothes & got a great nights sleep. Lookout had all the bus schedules printed out for mr & directions on what to do. The next morning she drove to the border where I crossed into Sumas, WA. for 75 cents I got a WTA bus to Bellingham & then for $16 I got a Greyhound bus to Seattle. I arrived there at noon. My wife flew up to Seattle to meet me & we stayed here for 3 days of fun, then flew home. What A Long Strange Trip It's Been, but what a great trip it's been!! What a lot of interesting a great people I've had the pleasure to meet & not just the hikers, the trail angels & other folks along the way who showed interest & helped in even the most minor of ways, Thanks to you all!
