03-04-2024 Day 1

We are staying at the Jacumba Hot Springs Hotel. What a GREAT place. We had breakfast in bed delivered to us at 7:00am this morning, what a treat! Good food too! Then I went and re-arranged all the stuff in the back of the car as I have damaged the EcoFlow Delta 2 by not having enough airflow. It works now but only runs the Iceco fridge but not the Starlink.

So I had Melanie drive me down to a new place to start where I can actually touch the fence & even put my hand thru to touch the air in Mexico! Then I hiked up to where I will get to the railroad tracks to bypass the awful overgrown first part of Carrizo Gorge. Only 5.3 miles, but it was to get the road section out of the way, make sure my pack was OK, letting Melanie practice following me, and test out all the electronics in the sun which we could not do in Montana due to all the snow we have had.

Melanie picked me up right as I arrived there and brought me back to Jacumba Hot Springs Hotel and after I tried resetting the EcoFlow and testing it we decided to order a new one as this will only handle the Iceco fridge. Melanie will have to start the car to use the Starlink system until we get to Indio where we have ordered a new one and can pick it up at the Home Depot store where we bought it from. We had no choice.

So I have now updated the Webmap and now this blog. Finally get to relax for the rest of the day. We will get up early to drive me back to where I stopped today to do the next stretch which is about 19.5 miles to the end of Corrizo Gulch where Melanie will meet me tomorrow if I can get thru the gulch with no issues. If so, I will camp somewhere there with her for the night.
