St. David's Wales

The train ride down was long but not to arduous. It stopped in many small towns along the way. We hopped on a bus at the train station in Havorford West and soon were in St. David’s – a charming town in south-west Wales. We walked to our airbnb in a converted Granary on Goat Street. The Granary was stunning, a stone building with three floors. The lower floor was apparently also a rental. We entered by ascending a small outer staircase to the front door of our rental. It had a small “mud” room for boots, outer jackets, etc. You then entered a large open eat in kitchen with windows on front and back – lots of light. Two bedrooms with twin beds were on either side of the kitchen – the one I chose had a small bathroom with shower. Deb stayed in the larger bedroom upstairs, which also featured a living room/study space with skylights and a larger bathroom with tub and shower. It was huge and really more space than we needed. We did invite Leone and Charlotte to come spend a few days also – in the end they did, which was really nice.

We had just enough time to go to the near-by gourmet deli/grocery to get some provisions for breakfasts and for me to take with me for lunches on my hike. We got some delicious potato leek soup for that evening.

I had to pack up my day pack with rain gear, an extra pair of socks, toothbrush etc. Just enough to get me through three days on trail. As usual on long hikes, I’d wear the same hiking clothes each day. I only packed lunches and snack food (got some nice nuts, raisins to make gorp). I planned to have a supper in the evenings at the inns and pubs in towns where I’d be staying overnight.

Weather forecast not too bright: shows chance of rain every day!
