View Of Kitchen After Demo

Week of June 24th

The big house renovation starts. We worked a lot with Monteriors, a local Montana home renovation place. I got all of the appliances, the cabinets, the flooring, tile, and Quartz for the countertops from them. It’s almost a one-stop shop. We used Ferguson’s/Build for the plumbing stuff: tub, shower fixtures, kitchen sink, faucets, etc. Our contractor is Chris Kelley (KHM Builders Inc.). Chris arranges all the other people and has a crew he works with a lot. I would not have wanted to do all that Myself!

He and his assistant Zack started on the demolition for our home renovation today (6/24). Zack brings along his nice dog Lefty, who usually sits in the shade on the lawn.

They started ripping up the carpet and then proceeded with taking out cabinets and appliances from the kitchen. The bathroom will be a big job with the amount of tile to remove from the much-hated “spa-tub.”

Most of this was done by the end of the week! One glitch: they discovered water damage by the back French doors. The screen door had been improperly installed; the installer had added a sill on top of the original door sill which slanted in towards the house instead of away and water had gotten in. Sadly, we have to replace the doors and do some water damage mitigation, but at least it was not worse – no damage to foundational stuff.

The chopped-up house looks so weird. We are donating some stuff to Habitat for Humanity (microwave, dishwasher, bathroom sinks, chandelier). A friend of Chris’ is taking the range.

Next week is painting.
