Wed, Sep 2 Beautiful morning after a thunderstorm last night. We had a great breakfast and left by 8:30am. Nice people. The hike was shorter and easier today. It started with a long downhill through a meadow and some woods largely on a gravel road. We came to Rifugio Pederu which is near a paved road. Stopped only to use the bathroom. Next an uphill to regain most of what we dropped. The up was more gradual so not bad. We got to Lavarella –another large and wonderful rifugio--by 12:15! Had some soup for lunch and hung out. We are in a bunk here, so not private. This is a family run rifugio and it looks like a farm. Lovely setting surrounded by mountains and with a gushing stream. Cows with bells all over. Dinner was great...pasta to start, grilled veal with some roasted potatoes, salad, and dessert.
