Thurs, Sep 3 Today was a longer day but great. First we had another wonderful breakfast. We headed out in the cool early morning. Our route included several miles of gentle terrain, passing a small rifugio, horses, and cows. Then an uphill to a dramatic notch. You gulp when you first see the steep down. It was a bit hairy at first but got less scary, but a long down. Lago Legacio was at the bottom and we had lunch there. Darryl and Richard were also lunching at the lake. They were booked into R. Lagazuoi. After lunch we climbed back up over 1500 feet. The last part had steep switch backs up to a high rifugio and the cable car. On the way up we passed old WW1 tunnels. What a setting. Wish we were booked in here. We are taking the cable car to the pass and our rifugio, Col Gallina. Not as charming and mediocre food, but we have a private room and bath. And, they are doing laundry for us! I'm tired. This was a longer day (9.8mi/14km). Another big day tomorrow.
